Ginger may not be the tastiest (in my opinion!) or easiest to take down, and I’m hoping you disagree because you know how great the Ging is; but if you’re like me, ginger is taken strictly for the purposes below.
According to the National Library of Medicine (part of NIH), ginger is used throughout the world for treating a wide range of uses including:
- Great immunity booster
- Fights inflammation, especially arthritic pains
- Reduces cramps
- Stimulates circulation in these cold winter months
- Strong antioxidant
- Promotes appetite and digestion
- Reduces nausea and vomiting, upset stomach, morning and motion sickness
Quite the impressive nutrient profile, below are all the reasons why ginger is a super star amongst the superfoods. Highlighting a few components that make ginger so great:
Amino acids – because of these tiny little constituent guys, proteins can and are essential nutrients for the body. Over 40% of body protein found in skeletal muscle, 25% in body organs, and the rest found in skin and blood
Calcium –representing 1.5-2% of total body, mostly found bones and teeth, an easy way to take care of them
Essential fatty acids –of vital importance as an energy nutrient and must be acquired in the diet from plant foods
Not to mention, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Potassium, Selenium, Zinc, Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and vitamin C are all present!
